2020 resolutions for screenwriter Kay Patterson

Happy New Year 2020

Scriptchic Welcomes 2020

Wishing everyone a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!

With another year is behind us, we reassess our lives and evaluate what we accomplished or didn’t accomplish throughout the prior year. Did you achieve all that you hoped for in 2019? Did you make or break the New Year Resolutions you made 365 days ago?

I hope so. If not, we now have another chance to try making those goals in 2020.

For me, 2019 was a great year for my feature thriller, Lineage, with it winning several awards. I did a lot of personal travel too – to various parts of Alaska and Sedona, Arizona with family. Practiced my photography.

I’m hoping 2020 will be productive and rewarding as well.

Like many people, I have new resolutions for this coming year. Three involving screenwriting:

1. Complete 2 TV Pilots;
2. Complete another Thriller Feature;
3. Complete 5 Short scripts of 5-10 pages in length.

Worthy endeavors. All necessary goals for any writer because they add more writing samples to one’s portfolio – and the more intellectual property you have as a writer the better your chances are at convincing a manager, agent or producer that you are more than a one-hit-wonder. You have more than one story to offer.

And, by diversifying the lengths and platforms of your scripts, you show them your willingness to venture outside the comfort zone of just writing one style of script. Feature vs. TV Pilot. Feature length vs. short script. Scripts that can be produced with a Low budget, Medium, or High budget. Contained location scripts with a minimal cast, to a script with multi-locations and large cast.

Will I succeed in attaining my resolutions? I will certainly endeavor to try.

But, we’ll see how my writing and my life goes as 2020 rolls along.

Check back to see future posts of my progress!

Until then, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
