For a twist in celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this year, hubby and I decided to skip the parade and crowded pub and stay home.
We sipped our green beer at home, sloughed on our couch, watching Irish-themed movies. While we only watched 3, we found there were quite a few movies to choose from that fit our Irish mood.
Here’s a list of the movies we found:
- Far and Away (1992) a period drama, featuring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, who travel from Ireland to America, both facing struggles with money and their feelings with each other.
- In The Name Of The Father (1993) Daniel Day-Lewis plays Gerry Conlon, a petty thief falsely accused of orchestrating an IRA bombing in an London pub and his struggle to overturn his conviction.
- Leprechaun (1993) A horror tale featuring Warwick Davis as a devilish leprechaun taunting Jennifer Aniston.
- Waking Ned Devine (1998) A feel-good comedy about a dead guy in possession of a winning lottery ticket and the people of his small town who want to cash it in.
- Ondine (2009) A variation of the movie Splash set in fishing village in Ireland with Colin Farrell as an recovering alcoholic father who snags a mysterious, beautiful woman in his fishing nets.
- Leap Year (2010) Amy Adams plays a woman chases her boyfriend throughout Ireland in order to propose to him.
- The Guard (2011) A comedy thriller about an unorthodox Irish cop saddled with a straight-laced FBI agent who uncover corruption with the cop’s police department while investigating a drug-traffiking ring.
- Brooklyn (2015) Saoirse Ronan, nominated for best actress for her performance, plays a young Irish immigrant in the 1950s who’s torn between her new life in New York City and the life she left behind in Ireland.
