Like most horror lovers, I love zombies.
I saw the original zombie classic, Night of the Living Dead, by George Romero, in our school auditorium when I was in middle school. My classmates and I thought it was real and we where terrified. Some of my classmates cried. Our parents were miffed at the school for showing us such a gory movie.
Many of us who watched it had nightmares for weeks.
The movie was filmed not to far from my home town in Pennsylvania.
And long before The Walking Dead captured my attention, and sated my craving for zombie gore, I watched older zombie staples, such as:
- American Werewolf in London – with dead Jack the zombie friend
- 28 Days Later
- Resident Evil
- Shaun of the Dead
- I Am Legend
- Zombieland
My tastes for zombie films ignore most of the campy stuff and poorly produced flicks.
After The Walking Dead, I enjoyed, World War Z and Warm Bodies. Then after season 6, I stopped watching TWD.
Yep. I cold-turkeyed it.
Done.
I picked up a ghoulish craving for iZombie, and later, Black Summer.
But now, zombie tales don’t thrill me anymore. Been there, seen that. Eh, no more.
I’ve switched to creature features that highlighted anything BUT zombie. I’m waiting for something new. At least that’s what I tell myself. I want something unique featuring zombies.
I’m still waiting.
Maybe, I write one of my own? Now there’s a thought.
