Turkey, roast beef, lamb or ham?
What’s your preference for Thanksgiving dinner? Or are you a buffet person?
I’m a buffet person. I like variety.
Mom always cooked turkey, when sometimes I craved ham or roast beef. We never had lamb, and I do love lamb.
My family no longer hosts a sit-down dinner for Thanksgiving. Mainly because the person cooking doesn’t get to interact with family much while she/he is cooking. And no one, but the cook, offers to clear the table or help with the washing all the pots and dishes.
Keeping all the side dishes warm while you carve up the meat is an art.
One I certainly fail to possess, in the odd 3 or 4 times I’ve host the event.
And pumpkin pie is not my favorite Thanksgiving dessert.
Nowadays, we opt to eat out for Thanksgiving. Now, the family gets to sit together and converse, choose the foods they like best, someone does all the cooking and all the clean up. It’s a win-win for us. Been doing it for years now.
I still roast a turkey. I do it the day before Thanksgiving. I make stuffing, gravy, smashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and green bean casserole. I pluck the meat off the turkey, make up Tupperware portions of the seasonal feast for family members, so they have leftovers to eat for the day or weekend after Thanksgiving.
It’s our new tradition.
