'tis the season to write that screenplay

Need an Excuse to Write?

December is the perfect time to start or complete your tv pilot or screenplay.

Christmas falls on a Saturday this year, and since many employers give us Monday the 27th off, many of us get an extra day off to write. Yeah!

So, even though Christmas weekend will undoubtedly be busy for most of us who will be visiting family and friends, some of us will have downtime Sunday night and all day Monday to work on our writing.

Use this time to your advantage, and WRITE!

Get those pages written. Finish that opening scene. Finish your pilot’s Teaser.

You can do this!

As writers, we are great at procrastinating, but this holiday season give yourself a gift –

TAKE TIME TO WRITE

Block in a few hours, close your bedroom or office door, stick your tush in a chair, and WRITE!

I’ll say it again – WRITE.

Written pages are like banked cash. You can add a little or a lot – a page here, a page there. Each page adds up. Keep adding pages until your script is finished.

Incase you need page count ideas, that’s: 90-108 pages for a feature; 34 pages for 30 min single-camera romcom pilot; 45 pages for a multi-camera 30 minute sitcom; and 56-59 pages for a 1 hour drama pilot.

No one in the film industry buys an incomplete script by an unknown writer. So make an effort to write and complete your pilot or screenplay.

The Christmas season is also great for fueling seasonal story ideas!

Think:

  • Christmas Shopping Chaos
  • Yuletide Conflict with Family & Friends
  • Gift Mix ups
  • Party Pranks & Upsets
  • Encounters with Santa or his Elves
  • Winter Sporting Event Mishaps
  • North Pole Adventures

For more inspiration, watch your favorite Christmas movie.
