Well in a 5-day screenwriting contest where I actually had only 3 days to write, my sports horror/thriller short, The Allure of Black Fish, was named a Top 20 Finalist.in the FilmFesto’s 5-Day Mashup.
Not bad for a quick, on-the-fly draft!
For the mashup contest, I was assigned two story genres. I had to utilize elements of both genres in an overall story, producing a script of no more than 10 pages.
My assigned genres were: Sports & Horror/Thriller.
I chose Ice Fishing as the sport. Featured it a two contestant contest that was officiated by the grim reaper himself, DEATH.
The contest liked how I chose a non-typical sport, and enjoyed how I mashed up the two genres, loving my twist ending.
The script has more action than dialogue, so it’s doubtful I’ll win the contest since the prize is a filmed Table Read of the script.
But, who know?
The winner will be announced May 1st.
