Great News! Righteous, my supernatural TV pilot made the semi-finalist round in the Filmmatic Sci-Fi Fantasy contest for 2023!
Although, it didn’t advance to the final round, I am truly pleased this pared-down version of my pilot is ranking better than when it was a bloated 60 page script.
The lesson here for fellow screenwriters is to remain focused on perfecting your craft. Even when you believe your script is ready for its big reveal, be it for coverage, contests, a query to a manager or agent, let the script sit a week or two; re-read it, or better yet, have someone else read it, looking for errors and areas in the script that need addressed.
You want your script to be the best you have to offer. So, make it your best. Don’t be too eager to shove it out to the public where it may receive a rejection or bad review.
If your script doesn’t make, or tends to only make, quarter-finals in contests you have a problem area within it that needs tweaking.
Getting the same comments of complaint from readers in coverage – which you pay for – also means your script isn’t ready for prime time amid the contest circuit.
Make the extra effort and review your script. Tweak weak areas.
Then submit your script to coverage or contests. Maybe then you’ll find your script of tv pilot made the semi-finalist or finalist round.
It’s worth the effort.
Trust me.
